I want to be a poet but I can’t rhyme,
My daddy can’t help me; he hasn’t the time.
I think of a topic, and then think of a word,
But I can’t think of a word that rhymes with word,
My pencil in hand, my paper before me,
I think really hard, but I don’t have a degree, in poetry.
My brain feels foggy when I use it too much,
Every word i think of sounds like it’s in Dutch.
Does cat rhyme with dog, or tree or with grass?
Or does it rhyme with Frog? I should have listened in class!
Maybe a short word is easier to do? ‘I’ is a short word, please give me a clue.
Well here goes nothing, my poem will start,
“Once upon a time…” oh, I’m going to restart!
“One sunny morning, I saw my best friend….”
That’s a good start, but I don’t know the end.
Maybe I’ll try a long word like ‘Hesitating’,
That’s a good word but I don’t know where to begin!
I’ll take a nap, to recharge my brain,
When I wake up I’ll try poetry again.
I’ll try really hard next time to rhyme,
And maybe, just maybe, it will be sublime!
