A wise man

A wise man walked into a room where friends were discussing him in negative ways… they didn’t know he was there. He shook his head, smiled and walked away.

He also had a friend who talked bad about him. The friend never knew that he found out, he never mentioned it. He smiled and walked away from this friendship.

He had family who chose to shift him out of their life because he stood up for himself for a change. And because he stopped crossing oceans for them when they would not even help him cross a bridge. He smiled, shook his head and walked away with pride & happily.

He was asked how he could just walk away from the people that betrayed him, who where his friends or family, so easily?

He answered that every time he came to a crossroad like that, he had to decide who will be going forward on the journey with him. This behaviour showed him who he cannot take along with him. The wise man was too busy & ambitious to dwell amongst negativity.

So he explained that you should never get mad at a person who betrays you, even in the name of friendship or family. Just gracefully bow out and enjoy your journey with all the new people you meet along the way

Years later the wise man was sitting with his son & wife.

The next morning while they were eating breakfast, the wife saw her neighbour hanging the washing outside.

“That laundry is not very clean; she doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better soap powder”.

The husband looked on, glanced at the son but remained silent.

Every time her neighbour hung her washing out to dry, the wife made the same comments.

A month later, the wife was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband, “Look, she’s finally learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this?”

The husband replied, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows darlin’.”

The husband then sat down beside his son & told him “And so it is with life son… What we see when watching others depends on the clarity of the window through which we look.

“So don’t be too quick to judge others my boy” the wise man said. “Especially if your perspective of life is clouded by anger, hate, jealousy, resentment, negativity, old age beliefs, sadness, grief and years & years of unfulfilled desires” You just never know what that person is going through Son. You never know a persons individual circumstances”

“Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are.”
